Anyone that has had the pleasure of enjoying a trip to a fine Italian bakery knows just how wonderful it is to smell the fresh Focaccia bread coming out of the ovens. This bread that is shaped very much like a small plump pizza, is actually a distant cousin of the pizza and some may even have a hard time telling the two apart. This is because this bread can actually have very similar toppings on it that can make it look just like a tiny pizza. While they are very much alike, the fact is that they are not the same and do have different places in the Italian cuisine circles.
Tiny Disks Of Bread Topped In Oils
Focaccia bread can be found just about anywhere today, and if you frequent any bakeries more than likely you have actually considered purchasing a couple from time to time. This is actually a natural experience, as many people assume that these wonderful tiny plump disks of bread soaked in oils can taste very similar to pizza. There are multiple types of breads to be had in a bakery, and each one has its own distinct flavor. One thing is certain however, that they all appear to be in the pizza family. You would be anything but disappointed if you were to purchase some of these fine breads, as they make for great lunchtime loaves, or they can even be stuffed with other ingredients to make excellent sandwiches.
Great On Their Own
If you happen to be eyeing wonderful Focaccia bread in the bakery, do not hesitate to purchase it. You will quickly find that this great is absolutely fantastic all on its own, and you do not need to do anymore than what has already been done. Most of the time these great breads have been basted with a fine Italian olive oil, and then garnished with sweet red peppers that have been grilled. Top this off with some fine sliced green olives, and sometimes even onions and you have practically a meal all on their own. Many people even elect to slice these fine breads along the side of the small loaf, and then stuff them with pieces of lettuce and tomatoes. This makes for a fine light meal that can be had for lunch or even a light dinner with a great soup.
Give Them A Chance
If you have been one of the curious about this delightful tiny pizza like breads known as Focaccia, then you really should give them a chance. You will not believe that all this time you have passed them by, for other great treats that the bakery offers. This is a fantastic food that the Italians have been enjoying for hundreds of years, and it is something that will most likely continue as these great little oil soaked breads are still a favorite with the Italian communities regardless of actually location. Takes some time and take a chance of a couple of these delightful breads, you can serve them with wine and cheeses and they will be a much bigger hit than you would imagine.
