What is the best size of Le Creuset Round Dutch Ovens? 5 1/2 Quart?
This is my first Le Creuset purchase and I would prefer something that is versatile and can cook a pot roast for 2 to 6 people, depending on the number of guests I have over.
I have the 5 1/2 quart Le Creuset, I found this size the most versatile when I chose mine. I use mine for soups, chili, roasts, even spaghetti. The size is perfect. Being such an expensive item you should really think of all the things you would make in it. Maybe bigger, maybe you could use a "French Oven" which is oval, but is a little awkward looking on the stove... It's really a matter of personal preference. By the way, all my LC is "Flame", It's such a fun color.
Also, remember to hand wash your LC, and because it is enamel, don't use metal utensils they will leave permanent marks. My mother-in-law used hers to mash potatoes in with the hand held electric blender, it's totally marked up! None of the enamel wore loose, just got scratched...
I cook with gas, and with LC the heat transfer is really quick, and it also retains heat for a longer period of time, so start at a little lower temp when sauteing onions and delicate things alike...
I LOVE my LC!!!
